a year of Contractor License Vault monitoring
a job walked because your license lapsed
An expired license can void contracts, stall payment, and bar you from suing to collect. We make sure it never quietly expires.
The problem
Renewal still runs on the mail and a two-year memory.
The state mails your renewal notice and PIN to your RME or RMO — once, on a two-year cycle. If it's lost, tossed with the junk, or sent to an old address, the first sign of trouble is often the lapse itself.
We take the date and the PIN off your mind — so remembering stops being your job.
A paper notice, once every two years
Your renewal PIN arrives by mail to the RME/RMO. Two years is a long time to keep one envelope — and one date — in your head.
Easy to forget, easy to miss
No login, no dashboard, no reminder. Between jobs the date slips — and CSLB won't email you when it's getting close.
Lose the PIN, earn more paperwork
Misplace the notice and you can't renew online. Requesting a replacement PIN means more forms and more delay — right when the clock's running out.
What we watch
Four things can cost you the license. We watch all four.
Renewal deadline
A live countdown to your expiration date, with emails at 90, 60, 30, 14, 7 and 3 days out.
Contractor bond
If your $25,000 bond is cancelled or expires, your license can go inactive. We catch it the same day.
Workers' comp
A lapsed or missing comp policy is the most common renewal blocker. We flag it before it stalls you.
Entity standing
For corporations and LLCs, a Secretary of State suspension quietly invalidates your license. We watch that too.

FAQ
Straight answers before you hand us your license number.
Is this affiliated with the CSLB?
No. Contractor License Vault is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Contractors State License Board or the State of California. We monitor the public license record — nothing official passes through us.
Doesn't the CSLB already remind me?
The CSLB mails one renewal notice about 60 days before expiration, as a courtesy only, to the address on file. You're responsible for renewing on time whether or not that envelope arrives.
What does missing a renewal actually cost?
A delinquent fee of up to 50% of the renewal fee, a break in your licensed time, and — under B&P 7031 — work performed while expired is unlicensed work, which can forfeit your right to be paid for it.
What exactly do you watch?
The four things that can independently block a renewal: your renewal application, workers' comp, your contractor bond, and your Secretary of State entity standing. We check daily and email you the moment something changes.
Is there a free trial?
The free lookup is the trial: your full public record, renewal countdown, and risk flags with no signup. Monitoring is $19/month or $190/year, and you can cancel anytime.
Do you need my SSN or my CSLB login?
Never. We read the public CSLB record only. We never ask for or store Social Security numbers.
I already mailed my renewal — am I safe?
Submitted isn't renewed. If your application is returned for correction you get 90 days to fix it, and if the expiration date passes first your status shows expired. We keep watching until the CSLB shows the license renewed.
I have no employees — does workers' comp still matter?
For C-8, C-20, C-22, C-39, and C-61/D-49 classifications, workers' comp is required even with no employees — and a comp problem blocks renewal. We flag it before it stalls you.
What if my license already expired?
An expired license can be renewed for up to 5 years, and a retroactive-renewal petition is possible within 90 days of expiration if the delay was beyond your control. Check your license free to see exactly where you stand.
How do I cancel?
Anytime, from the billing portal — no phone call, no hoops. And if your card ever fails near a deadline, we keep the safety alerts on and simply tell you the card failed.
