Terms of service
Last updated July 1, 2026
These terms govern your use of Contractor License Vault. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
What Contractor License Vault is
Contractor License Vault monitors the public CSLB record for the licenses you add and sends you alerts about renewal deadlines and risk events (bond, workers' comp, and entity standing). We are an independent service and are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Contractors State License Board or the State of California. We do not file your renewal for you, and we never ask for a Social Security number.
Where your license data comes from
The license information we show and monitor comes from the publicly available CSLB record. We collect it automatically on a recurring schedule, so what you see is a point-in-time copy that can lag the official record and may be incomplete or contain errors. We are not the official source of this information and are not a system of record for your license. Always confirm anything important directly with the CSLB, and treat our alerts as a prompt to check — not as the final word on your license status.
Your account
You must give accurate contact information and keep your password secure. You're responsible for activity under your account. You must be authorized to monitor the licenses you add.
Your responsibility
Renewing and maintaining your license is your responsibility. Contractor License Vault is a safety net to help you stay ahead of deadlines — it is not a substitute for your own records or for filing with the state. Public records can be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate, and we can't guarantee their accuracy or timeliness.
Monitoring and alerts
We work hard to make alerts reliable — sends are de-duplicated so you aren't double- notified, and we monitor our own pipeline. Even so, the service is provided on a commercially reasonable, best-effort basis. We do not guarantee that every alert will be delivered, opened, or acted on, and we are not responsible for email that is filtered, blocked, or delayed by your provider, or for a missed renewal.
Billing and cancellation
The subscription is $19/month or $190/year, with up to 3 licenses included and each additional license billed at +$5/month (or +$50/year). A card is required at signup and there is no free trial. Payments are processed by our merchant of record, Polar, who handles the transaction and any applicable tax. You can cancel anytime; cancellation stops future renewals and takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Fees already paid are non-refundable except where required by law. If your payment fails near a renewal deadline, we will keep sending your safety alerts and let you know your card needs attention rather than cutting you off.
Document vault
You may store renewal-related documents in your vault. You are responsible for what you upload and for having the right to store it. Keep your own copies; we are not a system of record for your documents.
Acceptable use
Don't use the service to break the law, infringe others' rights, monitor licenses you have no legitimate interest in, or interfere with or attempt to disrupt the service.
Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not provide legal advice.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Contractor License Vault is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits or penalties arising from a license lapse. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Termination
You can stop using the service and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if these terms are violated or if needed to protect the service or other users.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. We'll change the date above and, for material changes, let you know by email. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
